The North Dakota Board of Nursing Announces Opening of Licensure Renewal on October 1, 2025 on its New Nurse Portal

Published On: September 15, 2025Categories: News

Online renewal will become available October 1 through December 31, 2025 for nurses with North Dakota licenses expiring 12/31/2025.

New Changes to Renewal System

Renewal Begins October 1 – Don’t Delay

  • Failure to receive a renewal notice does not relieve a nurse of the obligation to renew his/her license before the expiration date (NDAC54-02-05-02).
  • Renewal requirements, FAQ’s and more are available at: ndbon.org/licensing/renewal

How to Renew

  1. Log in to your Nurse Portal account.
  2. Click the renewal link next to your active license in the “Your Licenses in North Dakota” section.

RN & APRN Licenses

If you hold both a RN and APRN license, you may renew both at the same time. NDBON strongly recommends you use this option rather than renewing separately.

Other Updates

  • Name and address changes can be made directly in your Nurse Portal account.
  • The Nurse Portal and License Verification Portal will display all temporary licenses, permits, and permanent licenses. Temporary licenses and permits will usually have a prefix such as “P,” “T,” or “Temp” (example: P007).

Retiring or Inactivating Your License?

Do not renew your license. The system will automatically expire your license on January 1, 2026. No fee is required, and you do not need to call the Board office.

Continuing Education (CE) Audit

  • All CE audits are now managed directly by the NDBON system.
  • You are not required to use a third-party vendor (e.g., CE Broker).
  • If you are selected for an audit, you will receive a message in your Nurse Portal account with instructions.
  • For details on CE, visit: ndbon.org/licensing/renewal/ce
